Literally, it’s garbage… but oh so good at what it does. I just returned from five days in the Backcountry with the tailgate bin, and it was amazing. Managing trash while camping has always been a struggle for me, especially with my truck’s GoFast Camper. This item is very well made and pretty bombproof.
Starting with the positives, the construction is really good. I appreciate its semi-rigid design, which allows me to remove it from the tailgate and place it wherever needed. When setting up my camp kitchen, I can move the bin over and use it like a trashcan at home. In Colorado, it’s ideal to move such items inside due to critters, so despite the smell, I was able to bring it into my camper at night, which was a relief. I like the flip lid, which eliminates the hassle of zippers, and the side buckles are solid. The bin stays on the tailgate and swings down to function as a general camp trashcan. It remained stable even on bumpy Backcountry roads and during rock crawling.
On the downside, the buckles holding the bag on the webbing are sharp and not very refined. I wish they had smoother edges. The webbing itself seems cheap and loose-knit, causing the buckles to get caught easily when removing or pivoting the trashcan. I modified the bin by adding curtain clips to the D rings to hold a trash bag and used magnetic carabiners on the bottom clips, making it easier to pivot the bag.
Overall, it’s a trashcan that excels at its purpose. If you have a truck and need a trash management system for camping or other uses, I highly recommend this one, despite the minor issues. Great job!
